  • What is THCa?
THCA, the acidic precursor to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), is one of the over 100 cannabinoids found in cannabis. Specifically, Delta-9 THCA is a naturally occurring cannabinoid in hemp and cannabis (Cannabis sativa) plants. It exists primarily in young, freshly harvested cultivars. When exposed to heat through methods like smoking, vaping, dabbing, or cooking, THCA converts into THC, unlocking its full properties. Delta-9 THC and THCA are both tetrahydrocannabinol chemicals with a critical molecular distinction: THCA has a carboxylic acid group on a benzene ring, and THC doesn’t. The extra ring gives THCA a three-dimensional shape and a larger chemical structure incapable of binding to neural receptors to produce the effects THC is known for. This shape also makes THCA a crystalline solid, while THC is a liquid. Check out the Joint Journal article about THCA!
  • What are Terpenes?
Terpenes, the aromatic compounds responsible for the captivating scents found in various flowers and herbs, play a crucial role in shaping the distinctive odor and flavor of cannabis. With over 150 types of terpenes present in cannabis, these compounds contribute to the diverse scent profiles found in different strains. However, terpenes go beyond mere fragrance; they possess various functions within the cannabis plant and can induce a wide range of therapeutic and mood-altering effects for consumers. • What is the "ratio" in products?
In cannabis products, the term "ratio" refers to the proportion of various cannabinoids present in the product. These ratios indicate the balance between different cannabinoids, which can influence the overall effects experienced by the user. Understanding these ratios can help users choose the right product for their needs, whether it's for therapeutic benefits, recreational use, or a combination of both. Examples of Common Ratios: 1:1 Ratio: Equal parts of the two cannabinoids. For instance, in a THC:CBD 1:1 product, there would be 50% THC and 50% CBD. This balance can provide both therapeutic and psychoactive effects, often used for pain relief and relaxation. 2:1 Ratio: More of the first cannabinoid than the second. For example, in a CBD:THC 2:1 product, there would be 66.67% CBD and 33.33% THC. This ratio may offer more therapeutic benefits with milder psychoactive effects. 4:1, 8:1, or Higher Ratios: These have higher amounts of the first cannabinoid compared to the second. For example, a CBD:THC 8:1 product would have 88.89% CBD and 11.11% THC. Products with these ratios are often chosen for their potential health benefits without significant psychoactive effects. 1:2 Ratio: More of the second cannabinoid than the first. For instance, in a THC:CBD 1:2 product, there would be 33.33% THC and 66.67% CBD. This can offer some therapeutic benefits with stronger effects from the first cannabinoid. Understanding these ratios can help you make informed choices about the products that best suit your needs. Whether you're looking for pain relief, anxiety reduction, sleep support, or a recreational experience, knowing the balance of cannabinoids in your product is key to achieving the desired effects.

  • What is the difference between Delta-9 and Delta-8?
Delta 8 THC and delta 9 THC are both intoxicating or "high" compounds commonly found in cannabis plants. However, when THC is mentioned without specification, it commonly refers to delta 9 THC since delta 8 is present in smaller proportions in the plant. The key distinction lies in their chemical structure, specifically the placement of a double bond. So, when you buy THC, you're commonly buying D-9, even if it's not specified. Aside from this difference, the rest of the molecule remains the same. Delta 8 THC occurs naturally in cannabis plants in minimal amounts, but it can be synthetically derived from CBD or delta 9 THC. Research on delta 8 THC is limited, but studies suggest that it may produce visual distortions, euphoria, relaxation, and potential therapeutic benefits. Delta 8 usually offers a less intense experience compared to delta 9 THC, making it a potentially appealing alternative. If you want to read more, you can check out our Joint Journal article!
